Whether you are new in practice or been helping patients with natural medicine for 25 years or more, the marketing approach I’m about to share with you will simplify your practice and your life, not to mention dramatically increase your income!
You’ve probably heard it a million times “The Riches are in the Niches”, “You have to pick a target” , “You need to focus your marketing” but what does that mean for you as an Naturopathic Doctor?
When I introduce this concept to Naturopathic Doctors for the first time, they often respond with “But Colm, I’m a general practitioner, I help all types of patients with various different health concerns” to which I say “Great, keep doing that. I’m not talking about your practice or your services, I’m talking about your marketing campaigns”.
Let’s break this approach down.
Most NDs market their practice and their services to the masses in the hope that casting a wide net like that will attract some people to call them for an appointment. The good news is, that approach works. The problem with it is it’s expensive and it fills their practice with patients who often are not their ideal patients. As one client in Ontario said recently, “I spending so much time researching medical treatments for issues I don’t normally work with, it’s frustrating”.
The solution: The rule of Five Ones.
The rule of Five Ones is something I learned about 10 years ago from my business coach and it has changed everything about my coaching practice and for hundreds of naturopathic doctors whom I’ve helped implement it into their practice.
The Five Ones are:
- One Laser Focused Target (Your Ideal Patient)
- One Problem (Area of Health)
- One Solution (Your Signature Care System)
- One No Risk, Irresistible Offer
- One Year
If the concept of the Five Ones triggers your F.O.M.I. : Fear Of Missing Income, from experience I can tell you, it does the exact opposite, it increases your income dramatically.
I’ll go deep into each of the “Ones” in my next few blogs, but today I want you to just be open to the concept.
The reality is by trying to offer everything to everyone you are limiting your income potential and missing out on the fastest way to having a million dollar, or multi million dollar practice. Most NDs who are general practitioners are struggling to keep up. They struggle with the marketing, the cash flow, the charting, the research, the patient follow up, etc. On top of that they are working crazy hours and unfortunately in some cases they simply run out of money or time or both and burn out from the ongoing overwhelm.
When you focus your marketing with the Five Ones, life gets simpler, income goes up, free time increases and life gets back in balance.
One ND client just outside Seattle Washington was in that “struggling” situation when I met him first, he was so busy trying to do it all he was on the verge of quitting. He had a tough time believing that by limiting his focus in his marketing that things would get better, but he decided to trust me and committed to launching a Five Ones campaign completely focused on his area of passion; Digestive disorders.
Long story short, his practice has gone from doing $90,000 a year as a general practitioner to over $265,000 as a digestive expert … he sees patients 3 days a week, has a proven effective solution that helps them get great results and takes off for 6 day weekends every other week using my “Alternative Schedule for NDs” strategy.
I have similar stories from Doctors all over the US and Canada who thank me daily for “forcing” them to embrace and implement the Five Ones concept. Some focus 100% on one health issue while others start with one then add additional area of focus they want to help patients with.
If you are a Naturopathic Doctor who is experiencing challenges with growth because you have a busy practice but you are too busy to grow any more … embrace the Five Ones Rule and simplify your life and your practice, income and free time will grow.
In my next blog post tomorrow I will share exactly how to choose your first “One”, your ideal potential patients so we can build a campaign to attract only those people to your practice.
